After receiving my doctoral training at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, and clinical training at the University of Ottawa, I completed clinical internships at Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and the Child Study Centre at the University of Ottawa.
I have served on the Board of Directors of the EMDR-Canada and the BC Play Therapy Association. I am presently on the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, and am Co-chair of the Child and Adolescent Committee.
I have received specialized training in working with children and adults who have experienced neglect, abuse, and dissociation.
I am trained in the use of EMDR (Level I and Level II)
In addition, I have attended workshops providing training in cognitive and behavioural therapies, play therapy, attachment, and brain functioning. I meet regularly with colleagues in a play therapy consultation group and in an adult therapy consultation group to consider particularly difficult cases.
In 1996 I received the Women of Distinction Award for contribution in the area of Health, Science & Technology in Ottawa.
In 1999, I received a grant from the Association of University & Colleges of Canada to travel to Estonia and Latvia and provide training for child therapist in those countries.
In 2001, I received a grant from the Queen Alexandra Foundation and the Victoria Foundation to establish the Stopping the Cycle Program for children with sexually intrusive behaviours and their parents.
